Problems We Faced!

The problems we faced when filming our music video is that we didn't have a real bar to film it in or we didn't have main props. The props we needed were things like a sugar glass bottle which we would have used to hit someone over the head with. This meant that we would have to use another prop such as glitter or beads to thrown to give the same effect but going against the actual music video.  The other problem was the setting; this was because we would have to make or find a set which would look similar to the bar scene in 'we are young.'
Another problem we faced was that we need lots of people to appear as background people in our music video. This was a problem because they were all camera shy or couldn't be bothered to be in the music video. This meant that we had to use the people who wanted to be in it for both scenes and try to make it look as though their were more people when the music video went into a riot.

Premilary Task- We Are Young Lyrics

Give me a second I
I need to get my story straight
My friends are in the bathroom
getting higher than the empire state
my lover she is waiting for me
just across the bar
My seat's been taken by some sunglasses
asking 'bout a scar
and I know I gave it to you months ago
I know you're trying to forget
but between the drinks and subtle things
the holes in my apologies
you know I'm trying hard to take it back
so if by the time the bar closes
and you feel like falling down
I'll carry you home.

Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun.

Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun.

Blue- When the singer is shown, miming the song.
Red- When the hole band is shown on a long shot and the main singer is miming.

Preliminary Task- We Are Young

For our music video we decided to do Fun's 'We Are Young.' We wanted to do this because it uses a lot of different camera angles as well as special effects such as slow motion. We also thought that it would be quite fun and creative to make as we would have to use a lot of confetti and musical instruments to recreate this video.  For our own version of this it will go up to 1:30 of this video as we didn't want to recreate it all and from the start all of the special effects are used; so we just wanted to shorten it as we didn't really want to carry on using these effects which has been shown.

Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

What Have You Learnt About Technologies From The Process Of Constructing This Product?

Technologies I used:

Mac- This was used to edit and put my videos on my blog. It also was used to do other research and was really useful as it was easy and enjoyable to use.

The Internet- This was used to help me research different genres and themes for my film. It also made the creation of my blog possible. During the research stage of my project the internet was extremley useful as I learnt about different horror films and lots of useful facts which could be put on to my blog and could contribute to my film.

Final Cut Pro- I used this to edit and put together my film. I thought that this was useful because without it I couldn't oif made a film. I also thought that this helped me learn how to shaperly cut a scene and edit it, so that it would go straight on to the next scene. It also taught me how to use different effects which made my video look and sound more scary due to a blurred effect which meant that the film looked supernatural.

Prezi- The prezi taught me how to display different types of work by making it look more appealing. It also helped make my work seem more professional as I used a different type of media to present my work instead of using the same thing again.

Powerpoint- This made my work on my blog look more attractive and appealing to the eye as I used different colours and fonts which could appeal more to different people. I have learnt how to upload a powerpoint on to slideshare which I then put on to my blog. Without powerpoint I think that my blog would be boring and plain because I wouldn't have used any colour or any way of displaying different types of information differently.

In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop Or Challenge Forms And Conventions Of Real Media Products?

My film used different conventions from current and previous horror films. This is because it helped make the audience know that this would be a stereotypical horror film which they could enjoy as it is similar to other media products.
 Conventions I Used/ Challenged:
  • Damsel In Distress- This is seen through the main female characters because they are panicky and are in danger. This would create a conventional character in a horror film because most women in that genre are often scared and need rescuing by a man. A damsel in distress has been used in many horror films such as A nightmare on Elm street.
  • Home video- For this I have challenged Paranormal Activity 4 as they have used a home video to create their film. I challenged this by using a black and white edit so that the film looks more scary. I also developed the home video used in Paranormal Activity 4 by adding different effects to make the camera blur out or fuss.
  • The Supernatural used- This would be in a conventional horror film because most of the scary moments come from the supernatural and the audiences fear of the unknown. In our film we used a ghost which would link to films such as 'The Woman In Black' and 'Paranormal Activity'. I have used and developed these conventions in a media product because it plays on the audiences fear of the unknown. I have also used these conventions because they worked well and the films became a international success as they have made a number of different Parnanormal Activies.

How Did You Attract/Address Your Audience?

How Did You Attract/Address Your Audience?
Language: The language used was informal which helped attraced my audience as teenagers often use slang and talk informally. This helped attract my audience because they could relate to the language as they use it in everyday life. The language would also appeal more to then because it meets my target market as they would find it interesting and would understand it if they use it everyday. However this wouldn't be suitable for older people because they wouldn't understand some of the modern slang which means that they wouldn't enjoy the movie.

Stereotypes: Stereotypes could attract my target audience because they would be use to a stereotypical horror film and would know what to expect as they have seen it before.

Costumes: The costumes used could attract and address my target market because teenage girls usually copy the lastest trends in fashion which might attract them to see the film, if the costumes are fashionable. The costume would also address my target market because it is a typical teenage outfit an example would be leggings which is mostly wore by teenagers.

Setting: The setting would automatically attract and address my audience because it is set in a school. This would attract my audience because most teenagers are in school and may want to see something fun about it. It could also attract my audience because a conventional horror film isn't usually set in a school which  means that it would be unique to set it in a school.

Actors: The actors could attract and address my audience because they are all females. This could attract my audience because females would attract males and females.

Stereotypical horror characters

Music

Paranormal activity 4 clip- Inspiration

This clip provided inspiration to do our film as a found footage because it makes the audience feel as though they are in the film which would make them scared.
The clip also has helped make us decide the  lighting as it seems to be in night vision; this would also make the audience feel scared because they can't actually see what is happening which means that they wouldn't be prepared for a jumpy scene.

The lost asylum- Props

Props will be used such as fake blood, torches and a phone.

Opening Sequence- The Lost Asylum- Rating

We decided to rate our film as a 15 because we thought that it could be too scary for a child to watch and that it might contain swear words which wouldn't be suitable for any one under 12.

Opening Sequence Of A Film- The Lost Asylum

For our opening scene we decided to set it in a corridor. This is because it would create a creepy affect and that we could play with the lighting.
The main plot of this film will be a girl who had committed suicide as she has been sent to an asylum. This is because she has tried to kill her baby; all of these scenes are set in the early 50s which then venture back into the 21st century. The opening scene will consist of the young women haunting the current owners of the asylum which then leads to police detectives entering the property, to help solve the reason why the women is still here.

Opening Sequence For A Film Ideas

For our opening sequence of a film we decided to look at the genre of horror. We decided that we wanted to do horror because we had inspiration from other films such as the exorcist and the possession. These films helped give us the idea of basing our opening scene on a poltergeist.

We also did some research on the enfield poltergeist; this helped us learn what the poltergeist did as well as give us ideas on how we could present it.

Opening Sequence Of A Film Introduction

For our final project we have to do a two minute opening of a film. For this we has to look at different genres and different films in order to help us plan the opening of the film. We also had to look at a target audience in which the we had to decide who the film was suitable for. In my group I have Jess, Hannah and Bradley and together we decided to do a horror film.
